Tales of the Islands
Suite in 5 movements. Inspired by Derek Walcott's sonnets of the same name. 16 minutes.
Can be performed with or without the poems narrated.
Instrumentation: Oboe, B flat Clarinet doubling with Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Bassoon, Horn in F doubling with Snare Drum, 1st and 2nd Violin, Viola, Cello.
First commissioned by the ROH. Première at Floral Hall, ROH, Covent Garden, April 2005.
Performed by ROH soloists led by Concert Master Peter Manning.
